Ideally our homes should be warm and cosy in the winter and cool and fresh in the summer but this isn’t always the case. A lot of the energy we use to heat our homes is lost through poorly insulated walls and windows which is not only harming the environment but it is costing UK homeowners a small fortune.

Double glazed windows are one of the most energy efficient options on the market and to enable customers to fully understand the product that they are buying, all windows are now graded with an energy efficient rating. Recent developments in window technology now mean that some windows will actually help to heat your home by harvesting free energy from the sun. The average life expectancy of a double glazed window is around 25 years, so you could stand to save a lot of money.

Not only does it help to reduce your energy bills, but double glazing is also a lot more secure compared to traditional single glazed windows providing you with greater peace of mind.

It is installed complete with locking handles and multiple safety systems making them much harder to force open and break. Most modern windows are now made from UPVC rather than timber so they will require much less maintenance compared to traditional windows and they won’t rot or disintegrate over time.

Double glazing is not only useful for your windows, they can also be applied to conservatories and orangeries making them much warmer during the winter months. The colours and finishing used can also be matched to the windows and the rest of your property making your home much more appealing aesthetically.

Overall, investing in a new set of windows will be well worth it in the long run, they are more energy efficient, secure and require little maintenance.

We all aspire to live in luxury but sometimes our living room does not provide us with the style of living we crave. When you have a large family your living room will often become overrun with clutter and a shortage of space will soon become apparent. Rather than just live with it, you can either look to move somewhere bigger or extend the home that you currently live in.

When you have a lack of funds to play with, the second option will definitely be more financially viable as home extensions will prove to be much more affordable.

The majority of homeowners tend to prefer extending their home in the form of a conservatory as it offers a way of living unlike any other extension around. Neither a loft or garage conversion will give you the heat, warmth and stylish living quarters that conservatories can bring to a property.

The only other form of home extension which can be compared to the conservatory is the orangery as it provides similar benefits but on a much larger scale. It may also blend in with your home that bit easier as orangeries are put together using a combination of brickwork and glass, rather than UPVC and glass.

Both types of extension bring something truly special to a property as never before will you have been able to relax in such glorious surroundings. The moment natural light hits either extension the whole interior will illuminate and create an atmosphere right out of the top drawer.

Added to this is the fact that the installation of a home extension will boost the overall selling price of your home. So not only will you capture better home living, but you could also make yourself a tidy profit when the time comes to sell up.

PVCu Windows and Doors recycled at Conservatory Outlet

Mick Giscombe, the Head of Production at Conservatory Outlet has made great strides over the last few months in increasing the number of uPVC Windows being sent for recycling.

‘When our vans delivery brand new upvc windows, upvc doors, conservatories and orangeries to our Conservatory Outlet dealers, we always bring back scrap uPVC window and door frames which have been removed from people’s homes’, said Mick.

Many of the uPVC double glazed windows and uPVC doors installed in the 1980’s and 1990’s are being replaced throughout the UK, as people look to add more energy rated windows and doors with higher specifications for security and design.

Conservatory Outlet is keen that other manufacturers and installers in the UK follow our lead and ensure that this post consumer waste does not go to landfill, but is sent to specialist recycling companies for reuse.
