Matthew Glover, Managing Director of Conservatory Outlet, one of the country’s leading home improvement companies, has ranked highly in Window Industries annual top 30 influential list.

Window Industries is a monthly magazine for double glazing, door and conservatory fabricators and installers and is the longest established magazine for the UK’s fenestration industry.

Each year the publication lists who it feels are the top 30 most influential people in the window, conservatories and door industry and Matthew finished a very respectable 6th in the list.

The editor of Window Industries had this to say about Matthew and his company:

“Conservatory Outlet is perhaps the most influential fabricator in the UK currently, having set the standard for marketing that many others are now trying to emulate, but so far few if any are showing signs of the success enjoyed by Conservatory Outlet and its customers.

Still everywhere in the market, despite dropping out of GlassTalk, Matthew seems to have a finger in every blog, pie, cause and charity.

With Conservatory Outlet, Matthew Glover has created a hugely successful and unique fabricator business model. The Conservatory Outlet network comprises of a relatively small number of installation companies – 17 at present – but serves approximately 50% of the UK per capita.

The network continues to grow both organically and with the addition of other successful regional installers, attracted by the fabricator’s lead generation and marketing support.

A renowned blogger and one of the founders of GlassTalk Live, Matthew has recently become the vice chairman of the GGF Marketing & Communication Committee, being influential in the decision to redevelop the GGF website.”

Any responsible should purchase home insurance in order to cover themselves against thefts and burglaries. To ignore this would literally be a crime! Insurance companies take into consideration several key points when they calculate premiums. This includes where you live and whether it is a known crime spot and they also need to be sure that your home is adequately protected should anybody try and break into your home.

If your home still has old traditional windows and doors installed, there is a good chance you will be quoted a higher price than a home which already has taken relevant precautions such as having double glazing installed. Double glazing has proven to be a much stronger and more durable alternative to timber windows, therefore it is far less easy to break or damage, even when forced.

The same also applies to those who have new doors installed at the front and back of homes. Both products are fitted with the most sophisticated of locking mechanisms which means once they are locked they will offer your home great security. When you take measures such as this it will display to your chosen insurance company that you are keen to ensure that your home is as safe as it can be against intrusion.

With the money you save from your reduced insurance premiums, you could look into extending your home courtesy of conservatories and orangeries.

Both structures can be used to increase living space within the home and add further value to the cost of your property. The orangery will cost more than a conservatory, but this will usually be reflected in the additional cost it puts onto the valuation of the home.

You can make a great impression on insurance companies by taking such precautions, so do them sooner rather than later.

There are a growing number of people who are putting money to one side every month in order to save cash for making home improvements at their property. Now to some this may sound like a ludicrous suggestion, but Conservatory Outlet suggests if you have enough available funds you should spend your savings on a conservatory.

We have not gone completely mad we can assure you of that! Conservatories are designed to be used all year round, whereas an old style of conservatory would be inhabitable during the winter when it got too cold and the summer when it became unbearably hot. The introduction of uPVC windows and double glazing in conservatories has put an end to this as they are weather resistant and can help keep such extensions cool or warm when you need it.

Each product we produce and design is created with environmental considerations in mind so as to make the most minimal impact on the planet. For example, with a conservatory you will help increase energy efficiency within the home and therefore lessen your carbon footprint, something to keep you and governments alike happy.

You can also customise each conservatory we produce with blinds or any other essentials you feel you may need depending on how you intend on utilising it. If you are looking to extend living room space, you will have the room available to place a sofa and TV inside, while a dining room can contain an expansive table and matching set of chairs.

Existing garden space will reduce slightly in size, but we will advice you of the best design to ensure the garden area is not completely compromised upon.

If you are unsure about how best to spend your hard earned savings, visit a Conservatory Outlet for the very best advice.

Installers, fabricators and suppliers are continuing to book their places at GlassTalk, the networking event that was launched when Glassex was postponed in March, with numbers approaching the total reached in March but with 3 weeks to go.

Following the simple, effective format established at the first event, the goal is for more than 200 glass and glazing professionals to take part at the next GlassTalk, which will take place on Tuesday 3rd November at the de Vere Daresbury Park Hotel in Cheshire. Following requests there will be more ‘speed networking’ sessions to ensure that everyone attending has the opportunity to meet; the ‘On the Couch’ chat sessions will also be slicker with a number of powerful discussions with key industry personnel, with the audience definitely encouraged to participate.

“We learned a lot at the original GlassTalk, not least that it was a very popular format,” explained co-organiser Paul Godwin, who hosts the On the Couch sessions. “Guests formed serious and lasting business relationships that have resulted in thousands of pounds-worth of business being written. This time we are encouraging more guests, who will bring more opportunities. This is unashamedly about doing business – but definitely mixed with pleasure.”

Networking sessions take place throughout the day, interspersed with On the Couch guests that will discuss key issues such as Pheonixing, irresponsible supply agreements and the open wound that is glass pricing led by Steve Sutherland of Dortech, who posted the protest petition on the Downing Street web site.
With most of any net profits being donated to charity, costs are kept low and affordable, with a 24 hour package, including all meals and accommodation, for just £150 plus VAT.

Full details, including companies that have booked so far, together with online booking facilities, can be found at: www.glasstalk.co.uk.

A final word of warning from Paul Godwin: “Our experience last time out was that there was a massive rush in the last few days, during which a third of the available places were booked. Don’t leave it until the last minute as numbers are limited.”

About Glasstalk
When Glassex was moved to a date later in the year many in the industry felt that it was an important loss to the industry not just as a show but as a networking event. With this in mind Matthew Glover (Conservatory Outlet), Andrew Glover (West Yorkshire Windows) and Jon Twigge (RoofWright) came up with the idea of the glazing industry’s first networking event. The result is and was GlassTalk.

Following the extraordinary success of the GlassTalk networking event that took place in March, in response to huge demand the organisers have announced a further event to take place at De Vere Daresbury Park Hotel, Cheshire, on 3rd November.

Beginning as a simple suggestion to the question of ‘What do we do now that Glassex has been cancelled’, GlassTalk offered 150 guests an opportunity to network with each other and listen to industry experts thrash out key issues. So successful was the event that the second date will allow larger numbers to participate in a planned programme that will allow more networking – the ‘speed-dating’ format that proved to be so popular – and a series of slicker, more energetic ‘On The Couch’ discussions.

Refinement rather than a radical overhaul has been the core principle in the planning of GlassTalk, which produced glowing comments in its wake with many reports of new business relationships being established between buyers and suppliers that would not otherwise have happened.

Daresbury Park, located close to the M56 in Cheshire, has been chosen for facilities that will maintain the close atmosphere that was a key element of the original whilst allowing more guests, crucial to widening the networking ‘circle’. The facilities at Daresbury Park will also ensure that the networking will continue well after the programmed sessions have ended, again an important part of the success story that established GlassTalk. There will also be a new facility through the GlassTalk website (www.glasstalk.co.uk) that allows guests to register their contact information for exclusive access to other GlassTalk guests attending the event.

Despite a larger capacity the organisers are aware of the need to maintain the close atmosphere that was a key factor in the original event, says Matthew Glover: “Guests at the first GlassTalk have made it clear that one of the key factors was the atmosphere that ensured everyone felt a real part of the event and we have been very careful to choose a venue that will maintain that whilst allowing more guests to join in. It is important after all to extend the network that we established whilst ensuring it remains personal and that the format works easily.”

The organisers of GlassTalk, the highly acclaimed networking event organised in the wake of the Glassex cancellation in March, have donated the proceeds to Gary Morton’s GM Fundraising organisation, with the funds going to the Hope House children’s hospice and respite centre.

GlassTalk captured the imagination of a sell-out 150 delegates from all areas of the UK glass and glazing industry, following a call for an event to replace the ailing traditional industry showcase with The Hilton Metropole, on the site of the NEC at Birmingham, chosen as the venue. The format involved a number of networking sessions where guests joined other guests according to randomly allotted table numbers and tickets, moving to others at set intervals.

Left to right: Paul Godwin, Gary Morton, Andrew Glover and Matthew Glover).

The afternoon included a number of ‘On the Couch’ chat show-style interviews held on the centrally located stage, during which key industry figures discussed such issues as generating leads using the Internet; PVC-U recycling; and how to best exploit new planning laws. Discussions were enlivened by the audience being encouraged to participate with many opinions expressed.

Jon Twigge, a key player behind the creation and organisation of GlassTalk, said that the not-for-profit event had hit the right spot on many levels: “This all began as a bit of fun on an Internet blog and grew into something that became a first class day and for many, night. Some great contacts were made and we are collecting many stories of new business opportunities that have come from this. We are all delighted to donate this cheque to help the children at Hope House, something that really puts the icing on the cake.”

GM Fundraising’s Gary Morton believes GlassTalk is here to stay: “I and my colleagues thoroughly enjoyed GlassTalk; it was well organised and a simple and honest concept that provided those attending with a very meaningful opportunity to meet others and to express themselves. I am delighted to accept the donation from GlassTalk – and of course, ultimately the GlassTalk guests – which really puts the stamp on it all.”

So did GlassTalk work?

The answer was an overwhelming yes with around 160 people attending the glazing industry’s first networking event at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham NEC on the 18th March.

It was a bold move to put together a networking event in just 4 weeks and was first conceived by Matthew Glover, Andrew Glover and Jon Twigge after the change of plans for Glassex in 2009. More recently Barry Dunlop, Paul Godwin and Iain McInnes put further resources behind the programme of events and the result was a full event.

A mixture of systems companies, fabricators, installers and other companies associated in the sector attended the one day event which was hosted by Barry Dunlop. The morning session took the form of 3 sessions of networking with tables allocated at random to keep the conversations fresh and engaging.

The afternoon involved a number of couch interviews, with Paul Godwin the man asking the questions to a number of leading industry personnel on topics including recycling, internet marketing and WERs/the environment. Evening dinner followed with a number of bar sponsors which included Ultraframe, Synseal, Conservatory Outlet, RoofWright, Blinds2Go, Business Micros, Edgetech, A&B Glass and Mila. Given the non-profit status of the event, the remaining balance from the bar was donated to GM Fundraising.
There was an overwhelming consensus that the event was excellent, productive and should happen on a regular basis. GlassTalk can now lay claim to be an important part of the industry’s calendar and now plans are afoot to make it a permanent fixture.

Other construction sectors have successfully harnessed networking events and GlassTalk has the potential to add to this premise. When you consider that leading industry figures such as Ian Chisholm, Andy Jones and Graeme Bailey attended the event, then you can see that the industry has a new diary event.
